The 435th Bomb Squadron was organized 16 May 1942 in Australia, and was dubbed the "Kangaroo Squadron". Before that time, the unit was designated the 14th Bomb Squadron and later the 40th Reconnaissance Squadron. The Squadron was primarily a reconnaissance squadron, however it participated in many bombing missions. During most of its active duty the 435th has been part of the 19th Bombardment Group, although at times, the Squadron operated independently. |
